How does Care in Motion work?
Back to top- Real-time information before, during and after visit.
- Operates on CESG-approved BlackBerry smartphone.
- Integrates with Guardian24 lone worker safety solution.
- Improves accountability through robust audit trail.
- Supports the move to community-based care.
- Lower clinical risk through accurate patient data.
System architecture
Care in Motion enables patient and visit details to be drawn from virtually any Patient Administration System (PAS), to be scheduled and assigned by Managers via a Web Portal, then to be securely passed via a CiM mobile application to a community clinician’s device.
The clinician can see their visit schedule, add visit results during the course of the day and send the updated information back to head office in real time. Once the clinician has subsequently checked and committed the visit results, this new data can be re-imported back into the PAS.

Back to topMore time to care through mobile working
The most important benefit to be gained from mobile working by community health professionals is having more time to care, according to a recent survey which looked at the benefits and issues surrounding the use of mobile technology by community clinicians.
The survey was undertaken by Orange, BlackBerry and Care in Motion at the recent Modernising the NHS conference and exhibition held in London for NHS leaders and decision-makers. It investigated different aspects of mobile working and how it could drive efficiencies in delivering health care. The key findings are:
- The most important benefit to be gained from mobile working is having more time to care. More flexible working also rated highly, closely followed by improved clinical outcomes.
- Apart from voice and data capabilities, health workers prioritise the facility to capture visit information without having to go back to the office. Accessing schedules and patient data while on the move are also rated highly.
- The key factor when choosing a mobile solution is security, to ensure patient details are kept confidential. Ease of use and reliability are also important.
Tom McMurtrie, Chief Executive of Care in Motion, commented: “The survey illustrates that the priority for community health professionals is to spend more time with their patients. By being able to record and access critical information securely while on the move, they can achieve this. This not only improves clinical outcomes but also drives significant efficiencies by increasing productivity.”
Care in Motion is working in partnership with Orange and BlackBerry to simplify procurement and implementation of a proven system-agnostic mobile worker solution for community-based clinicians and workers. This has already been successfully implemented in the NHS, increasing time spent with patients, enhancing response to clinical need and driving productivity improvements.
Modernising the NHS: Supporting the frontline conference, run by GovNet, was held in March 2012. This event brought together decision makers from across the public, private, voluntary and community sectors, and was focused on how the anticipated changes from the Health and Social Care Bill will affect the role and delivery of frontline NHS services.

Visitors to the Orange/BlackBerry stand will be able to enter a free draw, simply by taking part in a quick questionnaire put together by Care in Motion to investigate mobile working in the health sector.
Care in Motion will be demonstrating its easy to use mobile application for community health workers on the stand. This powerful product enhances patient care while also saving time and money by automating the management of patient visits.
There will also be an opportunity to hear more about the business case for implementing mobile working as part of the event’s seminar programme. Orange, BlackBerry and Care in Motion will look at how the NHS can release more time to care whilst driving improvements in efficiency, productivity and care outcomes through mobile working. The session will also explore findings from extensive research into the use of mobile technology, backed up by case studies of live projects.
Care in Motion is working in partnership with Orange and BlackBerry to simplify procurement and implementation of a proven mobile worker solution for community based clinicians and workers, that is system agnostic. Together, the three organisations are helping to transform the way community care is provided.
